SREC Elvin has installed what is one of the largest solar PV installations in the ACT: a 146kW rooftop installation at the Kamberra Winery.  The solar power station consists of 770 SolarOne solar modules together with 11 Power One Aurora 3 phase inverters.

The system was commissioned in May 2012 with the arrival of the "Grid Connection Cubicle" constructed in partnership with ActewAGL.  The GCC provides additional levels of protection for the Grid, duplicating the anti islanding functions of the inverters and giving the power utility additional monitoring and control capabilities for the relatively large array.

Fitzroy Apartments Energy Efficiency

SREC and PlanetSavers have worked with the Owners' Corporation of a large apartment complex in North Fitzroy, Victoria, to identify and implement energy savings for the Owners' Corporation and for Apartment owners.

The project included installation of a small PV system which offsets daytime electricity consumption almost completely - so that in the middle of the day there is a small export to the grid.

Preliminary indications are that the Owners' Corporation usage of electricity has reduced by approximately 75%, with payback within 3 years.

SREC's Chinese Partner Mr Jiusi Lin has completed his latest project at Chifeng City in Inner Mongolia.  On this project we have used Sungrow inverters with SolarGiga Energy and Suncome panels.

As part of the second round of tenders for ACT Public Schools PV systems, SREC won the 30kW installation at Harrison School.  The racks and panels were installed during July 2012 and the inverters were installed August 2012.  Final inspection by Actpla was in early October 2012.  The installation consists of 162 SolarOne panels with 3 x 10kW Aurora inverters.  SREC Elvin managed the installation with Ecowise Services installing the electricals.

Project completed mid 2014 by SREC's Chinese partner Mr Jiusi Lin, using JA Solar panels (260W per panel) and Sungrow inverters.

The project is located in Suqian City in the northern part of Jiangsu province and was constructed in conjunction with the 4th Nantong Construction Group.

SREC Elvin installed a 30kW PV system on the roof top of the McEacharn Place maintenance workshop.  The system comprises 156 SolarOne 190W panels with three Power One Aurora 10kW three phase inverters.  Panels are orientated north, with Clenergy tilt frames.

Cheney Place 55kW

Industrial roofmount installation in Mitchell, ACT

SREC designed and installed a total of 55kW for the Elvin Group in Mitchell, on the roof of the Elvin Group's "Concretors Warehouse".  The system was installed in June/ July 2012.  Panels are mounted on tilt frames and feed in energy to the grid through Aurora 10kW and 12.5kW inverters.

This project was part funded through a Clean Technology Investment Program (CTIP) Grant from the Federal Government.  SREC prepared all of the paperwork for the grant for the Elvin Group to submit.

SREC successfully tendered for the ACT schools PV installation program during 2010 and is on the panel of 4 vendors to install 10-30kW PV systems on each of 85 ACT schools. The first "tranche" of schools was installed during late 2011 - early 2012, with SREC installing 10kW systems at Bonython; Chapman; Duffy; Garran and Hughes and 15kW systems at Charles Conder and Wanniassa Primary schools.

A typical roof mounted installation consists of a Power One "Aurora" 10kW three phase inverter with four strings of 185W SolarOne solar modules, tilt frames, roof walkways and a data collection, storage and visualisation system. The 15kW systems use SMA 15kW three phase inverters.

SREC designed and installed 3 x 30kW PV systems adjacent to a vineyard in Holt, ACT.  The land covered is relatively barren and had been unused for some time.  Clenergy "Solar Terrace II" racks are used to support Jinko 250W solar panels, with grid export via a series of Aurora 10kW inverters.

The land slopes to the South and hence the north facing panels require reasonable separation between the rows.

The system was grid connected in February 2013.

SREC was engaged by Manteena Pty Ltd, on behalf of the University of Canberra, to design, procure, install and commission a 40kW solar photovoltaic system on the roof of the new NATSEM (National Simulation and Economic Modelling) International Microsimulation Centre building at the University. The system was the largest PV system in the ACT until the completion of SREC's 146kW plant at Kamberra Winery.

The system was commissioned during August 2010. The NATSEM building was opened by the Vice Chancellor of the University on 30 August 2010, when he highlighted the PV system on the roof stating that the system provides "predicted net reduction of greenhouse gasses of 62% compared to a standard practice benchmark".

In its first two years of operation the system produced approximately 5% more energy than predicted for a standard 40kW PV plant, due to the high efficiency panels, wiring and inverters used.  The system can be monitored online here.

System summary:

  • Solar Modules: 208 x Solarfun 195W high efficiency monocrystalline silicon panels, capable of generating approximately 65MWh of electricity per year
  • Inverters: 4 x Power One Aurora 10kW inverters. "Allsolus" data collection, storage and monitoring system. The photograph shows the inverter AC and DC distribution boards with the four inverters.
  • Surge protection: in field and at inverter Weidmuller surge protection, linked to Building Management System for monitoring. The photograph shows the in-field surge protection.
  • Racks: Clenergy Ez-rack
  • Installation: Ecowise Services

SREC provided the detailed design, project installation plan, full installation and commissioning checklists and a comprehensive operations and maintenance manual. SREC's OH&S and environmental management plans are compliant with University and major contractor processes.

The Billanook College installation is in two parts: a Parent funded installation on the Science lab roof totalling 3.1kW installed in January 2011, and a National Solar Schools Project (NSSP) installation of 10.1kW on the Gymnasium, completed during April 2011.

Both installations use Clenergy Ez-rack tilt frames and Solarfun 195W modules connected to Power One "Aurora" inverters. The 10kW system has a 3 phase 10kW inverter, and the 3kW system has a single phase 3.6kW inverter.

A Carbonetix "Solar SETS" package provides visualisation of the "green" energy produced by the two systems and the "black" energy used by the school.

SREC worked closely with the developer and builder of the new Apartment complex in Chapel St St Kilda to design and install a 5kW PV system.  Non penetrating "Kliplok" clamps were use to attach the system to the roof.

Roof mounted installation on tilt frames, using 250W crystalline silicon solar modules, connected to a series of 9 Power One "Aurora" 10kW three-phase inverters. The system produces slightly more power than Equestrian Park consumes over the course of the year, effectively making the facility "energy neutral". 

The installation included supply and installation of safe and secure roof access as well as remote monitoring.

Installation on Colorbond roof using Clenergy Ez-rack, 2 strings of 8 Solarfun 195W solar modules connected to a Xantrex 2.8 inverter. The system is producing approximately 30% more electrical energy than the home consumes from September-April, and will make the home a net electricity exporter over the year.


MC HOUSE: HAWTHORN

3.6kW grid connected

Installation on colorbond roof using Clenergy Ez-rack, 2 strings of 10 Solarfun 195W modules connected to an Aurora 3.6kW outdoor inverter. This home also has a large pool - the pool pumping and filtration sequence has been shifted to run at night on low rate electricity, enabling the home to export significant amounts of electricity to the grid at the premium feed in tariff.

27 x 180W Solarfun solar modules on Colorbond roof, with 2 x Xantrex 2.8 inverters. Modules are mounted on south facing roof using tilt frames, so that they face north at 30 to the horizontal. Inverters are located in the garage to ensure they stay cool during hot days.
